I was reflecting on my life one day, I found myself thinking that I really have not accomplished very much. Oh sure, I work, go on vacations, attend necessary family functions, take care of my family and anything else that life might demand of me. I have a good life, but something was missing.
Then, I was asked to become an Eagle. At the time, I did not fully understand what it meant to be an eagle My original thought was that I would have an opportunity to make new friends.
I think about the people I met when I first became an Eagle. Those people actually welcomed me with open arms. They really didn’t know me; however, they made me feel at home and accepted me as part of their Eagle family. I began to do volunteer work with them by my side to help me along the way. i never thought it would affect my life the way it has.
The motto of the Eagles if “PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE“. That means we always try to help others in need – Eagle member or not. Various functions throughout the year help us fulfill this motto.
Belonging to and being an Eagle are two different things. Anyone can belong to something; however, to be an Eagle you need to be involved. I know that I am an Eagle now, and try to do as much as I can to help. I hope that I have made a difference in someone’s life by becoming and Eagle. I know it has made a change in mine.
